Pounding rain echoed throughout the large manor. Every window was covered with thick black material, every door padlocked at least three times. The only light in the house filtered out from underneath the door in the upstairs hallway. There was a note stuck to it, neat script reading:

Alex,
I am leaving for our summer house in Cancun with your sisters and brother. We would have asked you to come along, but you have been quite difficult lately and I did not want to put up with you. When you decide to start acting like a part of this family, please call us and we will send a jet for you.

Sincerely, Mother

P.S. You're father was called away to Washington D.C. on an emergency call, so you will undoubtedly be home alone for at least two weeks.

"Mother" had been crossed out and replaced with "egg donor."

The teenager stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. It was warm, as it always was during the summer's near Seattle; regardless, Alex had pulled on a thick long-sleeved shirt. Unconsciously, she rubbed her left shoulder blade, frowning. Shaking her head, she tugged a striped blue and white beanie over her butt-length brown hair. Satisfied, she strolled out of the room, slamming the door, note fluttering to the floor.

~*~

Alex paced the living room floor nervously. "Super Mega Awesome Space Robots Supreme" flickered unwatched on a nearby TV screen. Alex enjoyed inserting her character into the world of the robots and had even experimented with pairing them up with her favorite character. She wrinkled her nose at the notion of that happening in real life. Robots were metal and humans were flesh. They didn't go together.

She was happy that she'd became interested in it though; she never would have met Roxanne and Maya otherwise. Speaking of Roxanne, she'd told Alex she would be here by now. Pulling aside one of the curtains, she glanced out, eyes squinted against the light. If she didn't get here soon, Alex was going to have to leave...

~*~

When the doorbell rang, it rang, and rang... And rang... And rang... And rang...

And rang.

Roxanne stood outside, soaked in the Washington rain. She wasn't sure she'd come to the right house. It seemed deserted and the blacked out windows creeped her out.

Her finger froze in mid-ring as there was a cracking of multiple locks and a deadbolt sliding back. She didn't move at all, even as the large door was flung open. The doorbell to let out a long continuous whine. She gave the  answerer a strange look, and found that she was receiving the same look back. Slowly, she pulled her finger back and tucked her hands into her pockets.

"Um... Are you Alex?"

"Yes... Are you Roxanne?"

Roxanne tossed her hair back and huffed. "Like you should have to ask such a ridiculous question."

Alex rolled her eyes "It's just that you're a little..." she smirked, "Short."

"I am not short!" Roxanne's hands flew to her hips, face contorting into an indignant glare. "Besides, you look like a little kid!"

The long-haired teen crossed her arms, aware of her child-like figure. She'd dimmed the lighting on her web cam to make herself appear older when they'd talked earlier. "At least I'm tall."

"Only by a few inches!"

The two paused, expecting the voice of Maya to intervene. They stood there awkwardly, remembering they had yet to meet the girl. Roxanne coughed, breaking the ice.

"Sooo... my full name's Roxanne Summers."

"Um... Mine is Alexandra Kay Turner."

The short-haired teen snorted. "Pffft, Alexandra. So faun-say."

Alex stuck out her bottom lip, pouting. "Shut up."

Roxanne pointed at the girl's face and began laughing uncontrollably. "Y-you... l-l-look... l-like... a-a-a-a-a-a... LITTLE KID!" she choked out as she cackled. She was used to being the one with the less developed body, but Alex's was worse.

Grabbing her raincoat and bag, Alex stomped past the strange girl as she fell onto the porch. She glanced worriedly around at the trees surrounding the property, then up at the sky. They were wasting too much time. Wiping the look of worry off of her face, she opened the door to the cab, turning as she raised an expectant eyebrow.

"Are you coming or what?" she called to Roxanne, who was still sprawled out in front of the door. The teen nodded, making her way to the car, still half doubled over with laughter. Alex sighed, hopping into the car as Roxanne rolled into the other seat, finally calming down.

"To the airport, good sir!"

The short-haired teen turned to her new friend. "Sorry about that. I get a little, you know..."

"Psychotic?"

"Psh, only when you add sugar!"

Alex gave a small smile, shaking her head. "How many teenagers act like you?"

Roxanne gave a puzzled look. "What, don't you go to school?"

"I'm home schooled. And I don't go out much."

"I thought you said you have a job?"

Alex froze. "Um, yeah, but it's not, like, a working with... young people job..."

Okaaaay... Roxanne mused, giving the other girl a skeptical look. Is it just nerves, or... does she have a secret?

Noticing the girl's discomfort, she turned and gazed at the fairly large estate as they left it behind. "Um... Nice place you have." When Alex didn't respond, the short-haired teen leaned forward into the girl's ear. "Mine's bigger." she whispered loudly.

The girl turned and gave Roxanne an "are-you-serious" look. "Are we really going to go through this again?"

Roxanne's eyes went wide. "Yeeessssss." she whispered.

"Roxanne."

"Alex."

"Roxanne."

"Alex."

"Roxanne."

"Alex."

"Roxanne."

"Aaaalex."

"Roxanne."

"Aaaaaalex."

"Roxanne, stop it."

"Aaaaaaaaaaaalex."

"Seriously."

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalex."

"You're being immature."

As they argued, the driver glanced in the mirror at the two teenagers. And his wife wondered why he didn't want to have kids.

~*~

Roxanne sat with her nose in the corner, pouting. Alex sat in the chair next to her, reading a rather boring teen magazine. She wanted to ask Roxanne who most of these people were, but didn't want to be ridiculed for her lack of probably common teenage knowledge.

"I thought the Weather Channel said this storm wasn't supposed to move in until tonight." Roxanne grumbled for the tenth time.

Alex shrugged. "The fronts can change quickly. Besides, it should pass in about..." she glanced at the clock. "...thirteen minutes."

Roxanne looked at the clock, which read 3:12, then outside. Wind whipped rain against the windows, thunder booming harshly as lightning lit up the black sky. She turned to the other teen, giving her an incredulous look. "Yeah. Okay. Thirteen minutes."

Alex just blinked, shrugging again. Roxanne huffed impatiently, turning back to the corner. They should have been to Maya's by now. And they still hadn't worked out exactly how they were going to get her away from her brother. Her over protective... Hot... Brother... Did she mention he was hot? She shook her head, glaring at Alex. She was slightly pissed at the fact the girl seemed totally chill about everything, like she didn't really care.

Alex kept her face emotionless, but was having difficulty not smiling. She knew Roxanne was unhappy with her, but her glares were almost comical. She had a plan for getting Maya to Rodin City, provided the girl didn't have one herself. She was also regretting telling Roxanne about the storm... It was another one of her slip-ups. Eventually, she had hoped to tell them, but now it seemed like she may have to do it sooner rather than later...

The storm cleared up almost as quickly as it had arrived. Gray clouds still hung in the sky, but they almost always did. Alex noticed this and walked over to the exit door. Roxanne looked at the clock, jaw dropping open. It was 3:25.

When Alex reached the door, she noticed Roxanne wasn't behind her. She glanced back at her. "Are you coming?"

The other teen scrambled to her feet, dashing after her as Alex disappeared out the door. As she walked down the steps, Roxanne practically jumped on her back.

"WHAT THE HELL MAN?" Roxanne flailed. "How did you know that?"

Alex tapped her chin. "I study meteorology quite extensively."

"What do giant rocks have to do with weather?"

The long-haired teen slapped her forehead. "Roxanne, meteorology is the study of weather."

The teen at her blankly. "Well that's just stupid!" She crossed her arms as they walked, huffing. She screamed suddenly and fell over backward as she slammed into the leg of a jet. Looking up, she noticed it was hers.

She glared up at Alex. "Seriously?"

The other teen gave her an innocent look. "You were the one leading the way."

"LIES." Roxanne pointed at the girl's face. "You walked over here all by yourself! You knew which jet was mine!"

Alex rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "Please Roxanne. It's not like I'm psychic."

~*~

Roxanne strolled off to the back of the jet. She needed to do something. Getting on her computer, she typed in "Alexandra Kay Turner" into the Google search bar. She wrinkled her nose at all of the results. She quickly added 'Seattle' to the keywords, but was still unsatisfied with the number. Oh well. It would have to do.

Before she could click on any of the results, a large robotic eyeball popped out of the ceiling. "I thought you said that you weren't going to do this sort of thing to your friends anymore."

Groaning, she flopped back in the chair. "Well that was before she started doing this weird 'I-know-stuff-out-of-nowhere' thing."

"She did that kind of stuff when you talked online."

"I thought that she just had some sort of indicator that told when people got online or something. But now she's doing stuff like telling me the exact minute a storm ends or knowing which jet is mine."

"She said she studies weather and she may have done her research. Just because you were willing to fully trust her doesn't mean she was willing to fully trust you."

She glared at the robotic eye. "Shut up Butler." She took a swing at him, but he dodged the hit. "Shouldn't you be driving the plane or something? That is the only reason I transferred you from the house."

The eye just mused quietly as the girl went back to her research. After about ten minutes, he moved down, looking over her shoulder. "Find anything?"

The girl grumbled and slammed her laptop closed. "Nothing! She's clean! And she has a lot of awards..." she pouted. "I want an award."

Moving up toward the ceiling, Butler chuckled. "Maybe if you didn't just sit at home all day and tinker with those metal scraps in your room..."

"Hey! Those are very important projects!"

"I'm sure, I'm sure. Now if you excuse me, I think I'll go check on the controls."

~*~

Butler had been right about one thing- Alex had done her research on both of the girls. In all honesty, she'd done it right after they'd really started talking. After she found out their IP addresses (Roxanne's had been significantly harder to pinpoint), their identities had been quite simple to deduce.

It wasn't that she didn't want to trust them, it was just... she couldn't trust them until she knew more about them.

Her gaze shifted slightly upward as Roxanne returned to her seat. There was dead silence, but it was broken by a crinkling of paper. Alex rolled her eyes as Roxanne tried to be secretive as she crammed colorful little into her mouth.

"I should have known you love Skittles."
OHMIGODITOTALLYFORGOTIHADTHIS. D:

Pfft, well it's up now.

Sorry it's a little lame. ^^; I tried to make it sort of reflect Alex, who, since she has had almost zero social contact with people her own age, hasn't quite developed a sense of humor or any sort of social skill. That and she's pretty much culture starved. XD;;;

And what's with all the paranoia and blacked out windows and the “I-know-stuff-out-of-nowhere” thing? Well you're just going to have to wait! (You should know the last part if you've read some of my Transformers fanfics).

Well Shades, I guess it's your turn to write. :meow:

Hope you all enjoyed it to some extent!
